Alicante’s council, meeting on 29 October amid mourning for the Urda crash victims, set prices for the major exhibitions at Las Cigarreras: €10, reduced €5, free on Tuesdays 17:00–20:00 and Sundays 10:00–14:00.
The €5 reduced ticket is for large families, teenagers aged 11–17, young people aged 18–30 with a carné joven or student card, and over-65s. Entry is free for children under 14, people with disabilities, school and university groups of 10 or more with a teacher, official tour guides, and everyone on International Museum Day. Free entry only for Alicante residents is not possible: the Supreme and Constitutional Courts consider it discrimination by place of residence.
The session was shortened: the council declared three days of official mourning, and political motions were moved to an extraordinary meeting. Before it, a minute of silence was held for the victims of the 2024 DANA, the Adam storms and the Urda train crash; Mayor Luis Barcala expressed support for an Alicante family whose daughter was on one of the trains and is still missing. The council also approved €140,163 to complete the El Portón building with 15 affordable social rental flats.
