Mozart’s opera The Magic Flute: the story of Prince Tamino, the bird-catcher Papageno and the Queen of the Night.
For OPERA 2001, this Magic Flute is its last production as an opera producer, closing a chapter of more than three decades. Martin Mázik conducts, Alessandro Idonea directs, Alfredo Troisi designed the sets and costumes, and the costumes were made by the Milan workshop Sartoria Arrigo.
📍 Egypt, science fiction and a trip through the ages
Troisi describes his version as a fantasy loosely inspired by Stargate: ancient Egypt meets science fiction, and the characters move through different eras, from prehistoric monsters and the Middle Ages to the Baroque, Mozart's own time and a distant future. The story itself is the familiar one: Prince Tamino sets out, at the Queen of the Night's request, to rescue her daughter Pamina from Sarastro, and in Sarastro's realm discovers things are not what he was told.
The main roles are double-cast: Tamino by Yuri Makhrov and Haruo Kawakami, Pamina by Francesca Bruni and Yeonjoo Park, the Queen of the Night by Marie-Pierre Roy and Viktoria Varga, Papageno by Jiwon Song and Dmytro Voronov.
