Start with your purpose
Do you need insurance for a specific residence procedure, access to private doctors, or travel cover? Define the purpose first. A foreigner-policy label alone does not guarantee suitability for your application.
Three terms to understand
Copago is a charge for using certain services in addition to the premium. Sin copago means no such charge for covered services. Carencia is a waiting period before certain benefits become available. Cuadro médico is the policy’s provider network.
Insurers and selected products
This is an overview, not a ranking. Terms refer to the named products, not every policy from that insurer. Read general and individual conditions.
| Insurer / product | Published terms | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Sanitas · Residents | No copayments for covered services. Both waiting-period and no-waiting-period visa options are available. | Select the right option; check nationality, entry age, underwriting and exclusions. |
| Adeslas · Plena Plus | No copayments; network consultations, diagnostics, surgery and hospitalisation. Some services have waiting periods. | No copayments does not mean no waiting periods. Do not assume this standard product meets your residence requirements. |
| DKV · Visado | The product page states no copayments or waiting periods; 365-day cover renewable annually, with passport enrolment possible. | Check underwriting, exclusions, local providers and your certificate. Published maximum entry age is 75. |
| ASISA · Insurance for foreigners | The official page describes comprehensive cover with no copayments or waiting periods for its corresponding foreigner product. | Confirm the exact offered policy, hospital cover, health questionnaire, exclusions and certificate. These terms do not apply automatically to every ASISA policy. |
| MAPFRE · Supra | No copayments, with hospital care. Published waits include 8 months for surgery, hospitalisation except emergencies, and childbirth; 6 for genetics and rehabilitation. | Check transfer-related waiting-period waivers. Do not automatically treat standard Supra as a visa policy. |

Ask before paying
Request written confirmation of the exact policy, start and duration, copayments and waits, hospital and emergency care, limits and treatment authorisations. For immigration, match the policy to current consular or immigration requirements.
Answer the health questionnaire accurately. Obtain written answers about chronic and pre-existing conditions, pregnancy and planned treatment before contracting. No waiting periods does not mean no exclusions.
Check local doctors, paediatricians, laboratories, hospitals and emergency facilities. Dental care, psychology and medicines may have separate limits, fees or optional cover.
Check annual cost, payment schedule, renewal, price changes, non-renewal notice and cancellation rules. Monthly payments do not necessarily mean a monthly contract. Keep existing cover until the replacement start is confirmed.
Why there is no single price
Premiums depend on age, household, address, product, underwriting and options. Request comparable individual quotes; an advertised starting price is not your household budget.
