According to RTVE, the Democratic Party won majorities in both the Senate and the House of Representatives in the US midterm elections. Donald Trump’s administration is likely to face an opposition-controlled Congress for the next two years.

Of the third of Senate seats up for election, the Democrats needed to take four from the Republicans; they won in seven new states, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Ohio, Iowa, Kansas and Maine, passing the 51-seat mark.

For Europe and Spain it means White House decisions on tariffs, the budget and foreign policy will depend more on negotiations with Congress. Final results in some districts are still being counted.
