The Council of Ministers approved a royal decree granting €201m in subsidies for private developers to build 2,500 affordable rental homes in about 30 projects (Málaga, Seville, Valencia, Cantabria, Guadalajara and others). Rent will not exceed 30% of household income, contracts can run up to 75 years and the public company Casa 47 will set access conditions.

It is a public-private model: the state provides the subsidy, private developers build and let the homes, and the public company Casa 47 sets who can access them. The housing ministry stresses that affordability takes priority over profitability.

None of the roughly 30 projects named in the announcement is listed in Alicante province — Málaga, Seville, Valencia, Cantabria and Guadalajara are mentioned. For Costa Blanca residents it is more a sign of the state’s push for affordable renting than new flats nearby.
