RTVE’s weekly “Por las buenas” round-up: Urda residents who helped the injured and families after the train crash, a record 10.66 million women in work in Spain, and a Médecins Sans Frontières centre in Congo that discharged its last Ebola patient.
The small town of Urda in Toledo province bore the first hours after the disaster: its sports hall became a care point for the injured, and neighbours and nearby councils helped rescuers and the families of the missing. Mayor Manuel Galán told RNE it was harder than the pandemic, but “together we are better”. According to the Q3 labour force survey (EPA), 10,660,000 women are in work in Spain, more than ever; two in three new jobs in the quarter went to women.
The Médecins Sans Frontières story concerns one centre, which has no Ebola patients for the first time since May. The outbreak in DR Congo itself is continuing, with more than 5,000 deaths according to the authorities on 31 October, so this is a local success, not the end of the epidemic. The round-up also features record-holder Martín Fiz running the New York marathon with his wife and son.
