After the Urda crash, rail workers are demanding more safety. The train drivers’ union Semaf is preparing a strike at Renfe on 10 November and partial stoppages on 12 November, while the Adif unions have announced a strike for 17 November, though it has not yet been formally called.
The Adif works council is made up of CCOO, UGT, CGT, SF and SCF. On 16 November, the day before their strike, they plan a protest outside the Congress of Deputies, calling for a new rail model and urgent safety measures. The crash at Urda (Toledo) on 28 October killed 69 people.
If you are travelling by train from Alicante, Elche or Murcia on those days, check Renfe and Ouigo timetables and notices closer to the date: strikes in Spain usually come with mandatory minimum services, but these are announced separately. We will add details once the strikes are formally called.
