Not a single builder bid in the first tender for a 45-home protected housing block in the San Antón district. Elche’s municipal company PIMESA will re-tender the works with a 10% higher budget.
The first tender, launched on 30 September, offered €4.6 million and no company bid. PIMESA’s board will declare it void on 6 November and approve a new one; according to the council the new amount will be about €5.3 million including VAT, with final terms still to be approved. Construction is expected to take up to 24 months.
The building will have 27 two-bedroom and 18 three-bedroom flats, two underground floors with 44 parking spaces and a shop at street level. Priority goes to families from San Antón’s block 8, which was evacuated over structural problems and declared unsafe. For people in the south of the province it is another sign of how hard it now is to find builders for publicly funded housing at old prices.
