In the month after the housing decrees, 26,531 rental listings disappeared from idealista — down 19% across Spain. Alicante province saw one of the mildest drops: −11%.
The idealista portal counted its rental listings, long-term and seasonal, from 25 September to 25 October. Over the month there were 26,531 fewer — down 19% nationwide. The portal links the drop to the housing decrees and is upfront that the figures are preliminary: fourth-quarter data due in early 2027 will confirm them.
📍 And here on the Costa Blanca
Alicante province is among the places where supply fell least: −11%. Only the Balearics (no change), Palencia (−6%) and Málaga (−9%) did better. The Valencian Community as a whole is down 17%, the Murcia region 18% and Valencia province 22%. Madrid and Cantabria fell hardest among regions, 26% each, and Soria (−39%) and Burgos (−36%) among provinces. The report has no separate figures for Torrevieja, Elche or Orihuela.
📍 Where the decrees stand
The government approved the first decrees on 29 September and Congress overturned them. After parliament was dissolved, it approved two new ones on 6 October — they are already in force but still need ratification by Congress’s Standing Committee. The vote is expected in mid-November, with the Basque PNV holding the deciding vote. If you rent out or rent a home, we are watching this vote and will report the result straight away.
