Maintenance of all Torrevieja’s street lighting for four years has been awarded to SICE for €3,022,515.72 including VAT (about €755,600 a year). Emergencies must be handled within an hour and ordinary faults generally within 48 hours.

What is included. The contract covers the whole municipality: streets, public gardens, decorative lighting of municipal buildings, monuments and signs, plus solar-powered lights. The contractor runs a 24-hour service every day of the year, with two extra crews in summer, does night checks of the lights three times a week and must inspect the whole network within four months. Remote management, energy monitoring, cleaning and graffiti removal are included.

What it means for residents. If a street light is out on your street, there are now clear repair deadlines. According to the town hall, the contractor runs a permanent phone line and reports are logged in a register the municipal service can access; the notice gives no public number. Once accepted, the lighting of Sector 20 La Hoya — 1,083 lights — will be added to the contract. Festive lights are covered by a separate contract.
