Where to rent
Alicante airport has the most rental desks: some companies are in the terminal, others in nearby car parks with a free shuttle. Off-terminal firms are often cheaper, but allow time for the transfer. Murcia airport and coastal towns also have branches.

- A valid licence. EU and EEA licences are valid in Spain without extra documents.
- Other licences: rules and time limits are on the DGT page linked below. The rental company may ask for an International Driving Permit — check in advance.
- Passport or ID and a credit card in the main driver’s name for the deposit.
- Minimum age and driving experience are set by the company; young drivers often pay a surcharge.
Insurance and excess
The price includes compulsory insurance, usually with an excess you pay if the car is damaged. You can reduce it with the rental company’s extra cover. Check what is excluded: tyres, glass, underbody, keys.
Fuel and checking the car
- The clearest option is full-to-full: collect full, return full.
- At pick-up, photograph the car from all sides, the dashboard and the fuel level.
- Keep the contract and return receipt until the deposit is released.
