Orihuela police start virtual reality training

Orihuela Local Police have started training on Octopus, a tactical simulator based on virtual reality. The council invested €18,029 including VAT in the system.

The software recreates realistic scenarios, such as an armed incident inside a building or in the street, adds random situations generated by artificial intelligence and analyses each officer’s actions. All of this happens without live ammunition and in a safe setting. The security department says the key is learning to make decisions under stress, when perception narrows.

The simulator complements the two compulsory annual shooting practices rather than replacing them. For residents of Orihuela and Orihuela Costa it is a small but clear investment in training the patrols that work both in town and on the coast.
