The Aubrey school district in Texas has named a new elementary school after Marilyn Hampton, who worked there as a janitor for 39 years. On hearing the news, 76-year-old “Miss Marilyn” burst into tears.
Marilyn joined the district straight after finishing school, the first of seven siblings to graduate. For almost four decades she kept Aubrey’s schools in order, and today she helps care for little ones at the district’s Early Bird Learning Center.
The new school will be called Marilyn Hampton Elementary School. “She is truly Aubrey ISD,” said superintendent Shannon Sayler. Marilyn herself admitted she never expected to live to see such an honour. Sometimes the loudest recognition goes to the quietest heroes.
