The train drivers’ union Semaf has kept its 24-hour strike on Thursday 29 October at all Renfe group companies. Minimum services: 73% of AVE and long-distance trains, 65% of regional trains, and on commuter lines 75% at peak times and 50% the rest of the day. Renfe advises against non-essential travel.
Semaf has offered condolences to the victims of the Urda crash and will not comment on its causes until the investigation reports. The union says the strike is about safety: risk protocols, better communications, hiring drivers, psychological support and reliable rolling stock. Renfe replies that many of the demands are outside its powers.
For Costa Blanca residents: on Thursday Renfe trains from Alicante, whether AVE, regional or commuter, run to the minimum-service timetable, so check your train on the Renfe website before travelling. The Madrid–Andalusia line remains closed after the crash; Renfe has laid on buses between Madrid, Ciudad Real and Puertollano.
