On 2 November Torrevieja’s council gave initial approval to its 2027 budget of €200.2 million, the first time it has passed €200 million. IBI property tax rates stay the same, and €47 million is set aside for investment, including €5.69 million for the new Los Locos promenade.
The budget is €12.5 million (6.64%) higher than this year’s and passed with votes from PP, VOX and Sueña Torrevieja, with the Socialists voting against. The biggest projects for 2027 are the Sea and Salt Museum and its surroundings (€9.33m), a new Alzheimer’s day centre (€6.79m), the Los Locos promenade (€5.69m), the La Plasa redevelopment (€3.98m) and the areas next to the port (€3.82m). Police staffing rises by €2.1m, and waste collection, street cleaning and parks together get €2.6m more.

For homeowners the key point is that the council is not changing IBI rates. Municipal rent help for young people aged 18 to 35 continues, €2 million is reserved for projects chosen by residents through the participatory budget, and a plan to add shade to school playgrounds is being prepared. This is only the initial approval; the budget becomes final after the required procedures.
