On 12 July 2026 the 12th Sol Film Festival closed at the historic Torrevieja Casino with a talk on the “Female Gaze”, the awards, a buffet and live music. Who won, how the evening went — despite the heat, it was excellent — and why it turned into a double celebration.

In short

The closing of the 12th Sol Film Festival took place on Sunday 12 July 2026 at 7 p.m. at the Casino de Torrevieja cultural society. The evening included the “Female Gaze” colloquium, where filmmakers discussed women in the film industry, the awards ceremony, a buffet supper, live music and a party. Tickets cost €25.

Our impressions

The July evening in Torrevieja was hot, but everything was still superb: the ceremony, the awards, the buffet and the music — the organisation left the warmest impression at the closing too.

And it became a double celebration: by coincidence, that day was the birthday of Tatiana Denisova Kaunova, the festival’s founder and the owner of Globus, the Russian centre in Torrevieja with a café, a bookshop, an events space and a property agency. Happy birthday!

The festival in figures

Four days and three venues — the Virgen del Carmen cultural centre, NEOCINE and the Casino — 24 films in competition, full houses at the competition screenings and a €3,000 prize fund. The goal set out in the festival rules is to promote national and international cinema, cultural exchange, new talent and Torrevieja’s place on the map of Spanish and world cinema. In our view, the twelfth edition delivered.

Look out for the next edition in the summer: the festival takes competition entries through the Festhome platform and gives out free screening invitations on its website. We will certainly be back — and will report on it.
