AEMET has issued a yellow warning for the southern coast of the province: from 21:00 on Wednesday to 06:00 on Thursday, up to 30 mm of rain in an hour and storms.

Spain’s weather service AEMET issued a yellow warning at 11:22 on 4 November for the “Litoral sur de Alicante” zone, the southern coast of the province, which includes Torrevieja, Orihuela Costa, Guardamar, Pilar de la Horadada and neighbouring towns. According to AEMET, up to 30 mm of rain may fall in a single hour between 21:00 on Wednesday and 05:59 on Thursday, and the showers may come with thunderstorms. AEMET puts the probability at 40–70%.

📍 What a yellow warning means

Yellow is the first of AEMET’s three danger levels. The service asks people to stay alert and follow the latest forecast: it says moderate damage to people and property is possible, especially in vulnerable or exposed places. 30 mm in an hour is a lot for our streets: water quickly collects in low-lying spots, underpasses and car park ramps. On the morning of 4 November the same level was already in force on the northern coast of the province and in southern Valencia.

📍 What to do this evening

Clear anything light off terraces and balconies, check that drains are not blocked, and do not leave your car overnight in low-lying areas or next to ramblas (dry riverbeds). At night and early in the morning, do not drive into flooded stretches of road or underpasses, even if the water looks shallow. Allow extra time for your journey on Thursday morning. In a real emergency call 112. AEMET updates its warning map several times a day; the link is below.
