The Madrid–Andalusia high-speed line is closed indefinitely. Renfe has suspended ticket sales on the southern corridor until 13 December, Iryo until 9 November and Ouigo until 2 November. Under EU rules, passengers on cancelled trains can get a full refund or change the date free of charge; they are asked not to go to stations to do so.

Every rail passenger is automatically covered by the compulsory travellers’ insurance (SOV): it pays for injury and death regardless of who was at fault, without waiting for the court investigation to end. Injury claims can be made within three years, though the first months are recommended. The transport ministry also allows urgent advance payments for medical and travel costs.

For Costa Blanca residents: if you planned to travel to Andalusia via Madrid, arrange your refund or date change online with your operator and watch for its updates, as no date has been set for services to resume.
