Two routes: the EOI and town hall courses
The Escuela Oficial de Idiomas (EOI) is the Generalitat Valenciana’s state language school: the school year runs from late September to late May, with official levels and certificate exams. Torrevieja Town Hall’s courses are shorter, focus on everyday Spanish and, according to the town hall’s announcement, do not lead to an official certificate.
EOI Torrevieja: address, groups and places
The school is at Calle Eugenio Segarra Torregrosa, 1 (03183 Torrevieja), tel. 966 926 840, 03015579.info@edu.gva.es. Office hours: Mon–Fri 9:00–13:30, and also 15:30–19:15 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Spanish for foreigners (Español para extranjeros) is taught from the first A2 year (1A2) to C2; classes are twice a week, two hours each.
In the 2026–2027 school year all Spanish groups are in the morning: starting at 9:00 or 11:00 (Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday), plus one-hour B1 and B2 speaking courses at 13:00. According to the vacancy list of 30 September 2026, every Spanish group is full except one C1 group (5 places). If you are not admitted, your application automatically goes on the waiting list and the school contacts you if a place opens up.
How to get a place at the EOI
- Applications are made online on the Adminova portal during the admission period; in 2026 it ran from 4 to 10 September. You can choose up to three languages and several time slots in order of preference.
- No certificate is needed for the first year (1A2). For a higher level you need a certificate from the official list or a placement test; the Spanish test was held in June 2026 and the fee was 12 € (6 € with the 50% discount).
- Results appear in Adminova from 14 September; you then have to complete enrolment: upload or bring the payment receipt (form 046), a photo (first enrolment only) and a copy of your NIE/NIF or passport. Without an NIE/NIF, go to the EOI and staff will generate the fee for you.
- Fees according to the EOI page for 2026–2027: 117.72 € for new students and 90 € for returning students, paid once a year. A 50% discount applies with a disability of 33% or more, and for general-category large and single-parent families; full exemption applies to special-category large families and other cases set by law.
- The minimum age is 14 (16 for English). The EOI has not yet published the admission dates for 2027–2028: keep an eye on the school’s website.
Torrevieja Town Hall courses for international residents
The courses are organised by the International Residents Department (Residentes Internacionales). Registration for the autumn 2026 intake ran from 1 to 15 September, classes start in October at the Be Magic academy, and the levels are beginner and intermediate. The winter intake (announcement of 18 December 2025) had six groups of about 15 people, 32 hours over eight weeks, with two-hour classes at 9:00, 12:00 or 16:00. The town hall’s announcements do not mention a fee.
- Requirements: legal residence and padrón registration in Torrevieja.
- Documents: passport or TIE (EU citizens: the green CUE certificate plus photo ID), a padrón certificate and the completed application form.
- Where to apply: the town hall registry (Plaza de la Constitución) or the La Mata registry (Plaza Gaspar Perelló), or online at torrevieja.sedelectronica.es, procedure ES02.
- The International Residents Department sees people by appointment at the La Mata town hall building, Mon–Fri 9:00–13:00; e-mail eu@torrevieja.eu. Staff speak English, French, German, Swedish, Norwegian and Danish.
Orihuela Costa and Pilar de la Horadada
- Orihuela: the International Residents Department is at Plaza del Oriol, 1 (Playa Flamenca), tel. 966 760 000, residentes@orihuela.es. As of 16 October 2026 we found no open Spanish course on the town hall website — ask this department about the next one.
- Pilar de la Horadada: the International Residents Department, which according to its page organises Spanish courses, is at Plaza Florida, 2 (Pinar de Campoverde), tel. 966 394 277 and 966 762 932, Mon–Fri 8:00–14:00.
- The EOI classrooms in Pilar de la Horadada and Guardamar teach English only; Spanish for foreigners is taught at the main building in Torrevieja.
Practice: the library and everyday life
Torrevieja’s municipal library (Carmen Jalón) is at Calle Joaquín Chapaprieta, 39, tel. 965 703 168, and according to the town hall it is open from 08:00 to 20:30. Spanish sticks faster when you use it for everyday errands — at the market, the health centre or the town hall — and our guides help you prepare for those visits.
