What ITV is and when it is due
ITV (Inspección Técnica de Vehículos) checks vehicle condition, safety and environmental performance; it does not replace garage maintenance. For an ordinary private passenger car, the first periodic inspection is due after 4 years, then every 2 years from 4 to 10 years, and annually after 10. Other categories and special uses have different intervals.
Use the technical card and latest report to confirm the due date. An inspection within the 30 calendar days before expiry preserves the previous due-date reference for the next inspection.
Booking and documents
For Alicante province, use the official SITVAL website to select the vehicle type, registration, station and appointment. Prepare the registration document (permiso de circulación), technical card (tarjeta ITV / ficha técnica), previous report and insurance evidence if requested. Confirm the document list when booking, especially for imported or modified vehicles.
Check lights, tyres, belts, windscreen and obvious faults beforehand. An inspection does not include on-site repairs; arrange garage work separately.
What inspectors check
Checks cover vehicle identity and documents, bodywork and safety equipment, lights and signals, brakes, steering and suspension, wheels and tyres, emissions and other applicable items. The precise tests depend on the vehicle category and construction.
Follow the inspector’s instructions and retain the written report after the inspection.
Stations in Alicante and Costa Blanca
The table lists stations or nearby options from the official Generalitat registry. Confirm the entrance location and available appointments with SITVAL. Calp and some other towns have mobile stations: check their schedule and eligible vehicle type separately. Not every town has a fixed passenger-car station.
| Town / area | Address or nearby station |
|---|---|
| Torrevieja | Torreta II · CV-905, km 10,8 |
| Alicante | Polígono Pla de la Vallonga · Calle Nieve, 7 |

| Orihuela | Carretera Orihuela–Almoradí, km 8,3 |

Murcia: a different station network
For Murcia, Cartagena and San Pedro del Pinatar, choose a Murcia-region station rather than SITVAL. AECA-ITV’s industry directory lists ITV Espinardo (Murcia, Calle Central, 2) and stations in Cartagena and San Pedro del Pinatar. Open the station listing and follow its operator link for booking and prices.
How much ITV costs
The fee depends on vehicle type, fuel, inspection type and region. For Alicante, check the official SITVAL Tarifas section and appointment confirmation. In Murcia, ask the chosen station; do not apply SITVAL prices automatically to another region.
Confirm whether VAT, the DGT fee and applicable additional tests are included, as well as reinspection charges and deadlines. The linked SITVAL tariff document is labelled “desde 01 enero 2023”; confirm the current payable amount with the station. We do not present an older table as a verified 2026 price.
The result and reinspection
Favorable means a satisfactory result; minor defects listed still need correcting. Desfavorable means serious defects and restricts travel to permitted repair and reinspection journeys. Negativa means dangerous defects and the vehicle must be transported by other means. Follow the report for the reinspection deadline and procedure.
We will build a separate trusted-garage directory after checking contacts and services. An ITV station is not automatically a repair garage or a recommended workshop.
