Main policy types
| Policy | Meaning | Check |
|---|---|---|
| Terceros · third-party | Liability cover for third parties under the policy. | Damage to your own car is not automatically included. |
| Terceros ampliado · extended | Often adds glass, fire and theft. | Covered risks, limits, exclusions and valuation. |
| Todo riesgo con franquicia | Own-damage cover with an excess. | Excess amount and how it applies to a claim. |
| Todo riesgo sin franquicia | Own-damage cover without the agreed excess for the relevant risk. | Exclusions still apply; the name does not mean every event is covered. |
How an excess works
Franquicia is the share of covered damage paid by the policyholder under the contract. An illustration: a €1,000 repair with a €300 excess leaves €300 for you and €700 for the insurer if the event is covered and that excess applies. These are example amounts, not a premium quote.
Check whether an excess applies per claim and whether glass, theft or repairs at your chosen garage have separate rules.
Compare cover as well as the annual price
Request a quote for the actual vehicle and drivers. Premiums depend on the car, address, driver age and experience, claims history and cover selected. There is no single price for everyone on Costa Blanca.
Check roadside assistance: whether it starts at home (km 0), towing destinations, countries covered and replacement-car availability. Declare the relevant drivers, including young drivers. Compare legal assistance, driver protection, limits and exclusions.
Before signing and after moving
Ask for the policy conditions and product information document. Save the agreed price, cover period and renewal terms. Confirm the notice period for cancellation before signing. Keep your insurer informed of changes to your address, vehicle use and drivers.
For foreign-registered cars, confirm your current policy’s territorial cover and permitted duration. Insurance, ITV and vehicle registration are separate procedures; one does not automatically complete the others.
