In an emergency, call 112

112 is the free single emergency number in the EU, available from mobile and landline phones. It connects you to ambulance, police and fire services. In immediate danger, call emergency services rather than waiting for an agency or friend to respond.

Give the location first

State the town, street, house number, floor and a landmark. Briefly explain what happened and how many people need help. Give a callback number and follow the operator’s instructions.

A Spanish phrase: “Necesito ayuda. Estoy en… Necesito una ambulancia / policía / bomberos. No hablo bien español.” It means: “I need help. I am at… I need an ambulance / police / firefighters. I do not speak Spanish well.”

Prepare contacts in advance

Save your home address, coordinates, a trusted contact, health centre and insurer. Use your health centre for routine appointments and your bill’s supplier fault number for household service problems. The emergency line is for emergencies.
