Shopping in Spain: supermarkets, furniture and home services

How to compare groceries, order furniture and agree home-service costs after moving to Costa Blanca.

Source review: 04.10.2026Official sources + editorial checklist

Start with a realistic shopping list

For the first week, prioritise food, bedding, cleaning supplies and essential kitchen items. In a rented home, check the inventory and agree any changes with the owner before buying or installing equipment.

Supermarkets: compare your own basket

There is no single cheapest chain for every product and household. Compare the same weight, quality and brands, including delivery and travel costs. Check the particular store’s opening hours before a Sunday or holiday trip.

Furniture: stores and delivery

The furniture list now includes JYSK, Conforama and Leroy Merlin alongside IKEA. The separate directory gives addresses in four areas and explains each location’s format. Measure the room, doorways and lift before buying; agree upstairs delivery, assembly and removal of old furniture.

Repairs and household equipment

Leroy Merlin is one starting point for tools, lighting, storage and home-improvement products. Compare dimensions and compatibility, and request an itemised installation quote rather than relying on the shelf price.

Booking advice and the professional directory

Safe booking advice and provider contacts have separate pages. The advice covers quotes, payment and acceptance; the directory will contain handymen and electricians with town, services, languages and contact details.
