The Labour Ministry’s expert panel recommends raising the minimum wage by 4.9% in 2027, to €1,281 gross a month over 14 payments — €60 more. The final decision lies with the government, which wants to approve it before the 29 November election.

Spain’s minimum wage is currently €1,221 gross a month over 14 payments, or €17,094 a year. According to RTVE, which saw the report, the experts favour the 4.9% option, which keeps the minimum wage free of income tax (IRPF) and covers inflation; a smaller 2.7% rise (€1,254) was also considered. Prices rose 3.6% from January to September.

By law the government sets the minimum wage after consulting unions and employers, but it does not need their agreement. On the Costa Blanca, where much work is in tourism, hospitality and cleaning, the rise would mainly affect seasonal and service workers; anyone employing household help should factor the new amount into contracts from January.
