Luis Pedro Marco de la Peña, president of Adif, the company that runs Spain’s rail network, resigned on 4 November, a day after Transport Minister Óscar Puente stepped down following the Urda crash.

According to RTVE, Marco de la Peña handed his resignation to First Deputy Prime Minister Carlos Cuerpo, who is temporarily in charge of transport. Cuerpo met the rail leadership the same day and called the decision “right”, saying the reasons were similar to Puente’s. Marco de la Peña had led Adif since September 2024. No successor had been named at the time of checking.

For passengers from the Costa Blanca trains are running to the usual timetable for now, but rail strikes have been called for 10, 12 and 17 November, so check the Renfe website before a trip to Madrid or Valencia. This week the government also approved €30 million in aid for those affected and measures to improve high-speed line safety.
